If you start looking into 3D printing on the internet, you would be excused for the error of thinking that it was about nothing but making toys and models of monsters. You would be excused because that is what a great majority of the hobbyists working with this technology use it for. When you look to the professional side of it, its still a majority, if not a slimmer one. I personally will be greatly satisfied if I can run my business on nothing but my own cryptid, creature, and monster creativity.

But it would still be an error to think that.

Not for thinking of it as a creative tool.

Rather for thinking of it through such a small viewport.

As far as creative tools go, additive manufacturing in the form of 3D printing in conjunction with CAD software is right up there with the paper and pencil. Yes, I know paper and pencil isn’t exactly the height of technology…but that’s not what I was calling it. What paper and pencil are, is fundamental to most peoples creative process. It extends our memory, helps visualize complex concepts, organizes thought, and records it all in a format that is easy to share. 3D printing is similar in those ways, and as it continues to be adopted, it will be as fundamental to the creative process as paper and pencil.

Sometimes that creativity isn’t just fun, although the project I am talking about today is a little bit of both as 3D printing provides a practical solution to an artistic project’s production issues. Which brings me to the print pictured above and the subject at hand.

It’s just a widows walk hand rail for a model house that is going to be used in a video production. Making it by hand is well within the artists scope of skills… but who wants to waste 4 hours with an exacto knife hovering over balsa wood for something that is going to be on camera for maybe 10 minutes and probably wont be noticed by ANYONE. Especially when having it designed and printed costs less that that same artist can make in 45 minutes kicking out a pet painting (not really part of this individuals business model) for some random hipster AND it was put together in a just a couple hours and is ready long before the rest of the model.

Again. Don’t even let that thought limit you. We can produce a wide variety of designs and artifacts in an efficient manner and at a more than fair price.

Have a need? Shoot us an email Let us know what the problem is, and we will let you know if it is something we can handle. If we can, we will quote the project. If not, we will help get you on the right path.
