The Dover Demon: Origin Story
The Dover Demon is a cryptid reportedly sighted in Dover, Massachusetts, in April 1977. The sightings occurred over two nights and involved multiple witnesses, primarily teenagers. Described as a small, human-like creature with a large, watermelon-shaped head, the Dover Demon stood around four feet tall with spindly limbs and glowing eyes. Its skin was said to be smooth and hairless, varying in color from a pale peach to a light gray.
The first sighting occurred when William Bartlett, a 17-year-old, was driving with friends and saw the creature on a stone wall. He described its eyes as glowing and large, dominating its face. Later, John Baxter, also a teenager, encountered the creature while walking home, describing a similar being with long fingers and no visible nose, mouth, or ears. The final sighting was by Abby Brabham, who also noted the creature’s large head and eerie eyes.
The Dover Demon has since become a local legend, inspiring debates among cryptozoologists, skeptics, and enthusiasts of the paranormal. Some speculate it could be an extraterrestrial being or an unknown animal, while others believe it might have been a hoax or a misidentified animal.
